The Sovereignity of God

                                   What I need to know

MY DECISION

(To Believe God or Not)

Life is about choices. We know that the way we experience the world depends very much on how we as individuals view the world. I have a friend who once said: “Life is about solving problems ”  He might as well have said: “Life consists of problems”, but as a positive person he preferred to see problems as challenges to be solved.

We are confronted with problems and decisions every day, mostly minor, but we certainly face serious problems every now and then.  To address and solve these problems we have to make the right decisions that will , in retrospect, hopefully be the correct choices, but sometimes not.

It is, however, our choice either to address these problems or we can try to avoid the issues, try to walk away from them(particularly if the answers are not easy or make us feel uncomfortable) and hope they will fade away. Surprisingly, some do fade away with time into a non-issue. We all know that major problems and questions will and do cross our paths from time to time. Some, by the nature of the problem, can simply not be avoided or be wished away like serious illness or the death of someone close to us. And we have no choice but to accept the difficulties and have to decide how to deal with these unpleasant situations.

The ultimate decision in life that touches the core of our existence is also given to us as a choice.

We can either decide to deal with it or try to avoid it, but it will be with us throughout our lives as I believe it is engraved in our inner soul. We can suppress it for a long time but it will appear every so often.

In a world of very few, if any, absolute certainties, there is only one fact that we can be very sure of. And that is that every human being’s life will end. We can live comfortably and enjoy our existence. But we have no control over the duration of our lives. However, the content, the quality and the measures of usefulness that we invest into our lives, is to a large extent, left in our own hands. This demands from usa conscious decision to make life meaningful. Slowly but surely we are growing older until eventually everything will come to a halt. It may also come to a sudden halt any day, any moment. All we know and can be totally sure of , is that it will end. This is the one of the few facts in life that we can accept as an absolute certainty. Nothing else in life is as certain as this. The sun that shines today will set, what is today, will come to an end. My family, my health, my wealth, my education, my career, everything that I am and have will cease to exist. It will all disappear.

What then, is the decision, the choices I have to make, if I have no control over this scenario of life and death?  I might through a healthy lifestyle and maybe by avoiding risky situations, postpone the unavoidable, but there is nothing I, or anyone else in the world, past or present, can do that might have the slightest influence on the fact of my inevitable death.

Is the best possible solution not to think too much about it and to make the most of every day and of our lives, as long as it lasts?

Can it all be as simple as that?  As I look at life, many things seem to look simple and straight forward only until we start thinking about it, living and experiencing it and start asking questions. Let us consider junior school mathematics. It is fairly simple and easy to understand and quite usable on that level. The more you study mathematics, however, the more complicated it becomes. From junior school to senior school, to university, to a doctorate in mathematics – it is still mathematics, but not simple and straightforward anymore.   It also becomes more useful e.g. to design high tech equipment or to put people in outer space. The point is, there is much more to mathematics than what the primary school child can see. There is much more to life than the simple facts of birth and death and trying to make the best of the years in between. And the consequences of how we think about it profound.

Let us look more closely at this inevitable, unavoidable choice or decision. This choice or decision arises from the fact that we cannot deny that we live in a very complicated environment. This, somehow, came to be millions of years ago and has developed into such a complicated system, yet very organised, that our limited brain cannot nearly grasp the full meaning of it all, let alone all the scientific facts of which the knowledge is expanding daily at a pace history has never seen before, only to convince us of how much we still do not understand.

How did all this happen? Can I really convince myself, without the slightest doubt, that it all just happened for no reason whatsoever and that there is no Being, Intelligent Design, behind this?  This is our ultimate decision in life. We all have to decide – either that there is a Being who created the world, or we have to convince ourselves with sound arguments, that there is no such Being – the whole world and universe just came to be through its own forces out of nothing. Or we could stay with primary school mathematics and spend our lives trying not to think too much about it, avoid it..

Why do I have to make this decision?  It is in our nature to investigate and to find answers. Further, is this perhaps the most important question in our lives we need to answer with its eternal consequences? I believe so.

People often feel uncomfortable talking or even thinking about the possibility and implications of the existence of a Being who created the world and the universe. Why? I believe we feel uncomfortable about this, because there is such a Being. He makes us uncomfortable so that we might seek Him. How can we feel uncomfortable about nothing? More importantly, if we think and have to accept the existence of such a Being, serious questions will unavoidably follow.  Why was I created? Would such a Being create me to live a life for no particular reason - simply to be born, to die and disappear?  What would the reason for life be?

Can we avoid really this question? Not if we dare to think about it. If I want to be honest with myself, I have to have the courage of my conviction to sit down and to make up my mind with sound arguments. And I only have two choices: There is a God or there is no God.

Lets look at each possibility:

I. There Might be no God

If I am convinced that there is no God then, at least, I should be able to read and argue about this possibility without becoming emotional or uncomfortable as one should not become emotional about nothing. I should feel completely comfortable with this idea.

The one obvious problem with the believe that there is no God is to explain the existence of our world and the universe. There is the “Big Bang Theory” and very good scientific evidence for it. But who created the “Big Bang”?

Our world and the universe consist merely of a 100 + basic elements – the only building blocks that form everything; from stone to diamond, sand to art, emotions and music. Everything: love, happiness, intelligence, relationships, thoughts,  the colours of dawn, the sun, the most distant stars, everything known to us made up and results from these few basic elements.

Is it possible that each of these 100 or so elements with each one’s specifics characteristics and its potential to change its characteristics completely when it reacts with another element to form completely different matter, all developed from nothing? (for example the combination of the gasses oxygen  and hydrogen results in liquid, water: O+2H= H2O) The chemical reactions between these elements forming new molecules are all subject to constant, specific and precise mathematical, physical and chemical laws. However, these laws could not exist without the existence of these elements, because the laws on their own would be meaningless. The elements on their own, without the laws, would have been very limited in their potential, certainly no life possible. Is there possibly a missing link here? The existence of these elements and the existence of these laws that function in harmony and in a very regulate manner has formed everything known to man including himself. What are the statistical chances that this could have developed out of nothing forming all the complexities of life including a human fertilised cell - This single cell with its approximately 3 billion genes that have the potential to develop into a adult human being with its complex anatomy and physiology, his emotions of love, hate and all the other intricate emotions and creativity. Completely unique in every individual.

We can argue that this is far too complicated to have been designed and created by any Being. Thus man has created a god to explain what he can not. But we have then to accept that everything has developed out of nothing, towards nothing  and purely by chance.

We can also argue that there is so much hate, pain, disease, so many innocent children dying, war, famine, racial inequity and racial conflict, different religions. An endless list of suffering in the world, so much so that we cannot accept that there is a God allowing this. Let alone a God of Love.

The problem is that there is no scientific proof that there is no God. You have to rely on what you believe. There is also no scientific proof that there is a God. The person that accepts the existence of God has to rely on what he believes. The believer and the non-believer are therefore equal in their belief, they both believe in something that cannot be scientifically proved. However, there is one essential difference: God reveals Himself to anyone who believes in Him. I will come back to this fact as this is the basis of faith (faith = complete trust) in God.

Can I know God personally, can I make contact with God, can I communicate with Him and He with me? Can I experience the presence of God?

God created man and gave him a free will to make decisions and choices. If He created him without a free will, man would have been nothing but a robot. If God is good, a God of love and mercy and everything that we know as positive and beautiful, then it follows that the opposite of all of these must be a possibility.  Just as ‘left’ implies that there is a ‘right’, that ‘in’ implies there must be an ‘out’, if there is a beautiful flower, there must be a not so beautiful flower. If God is a God of love then the opposite, hate must be possible or mercy then cruelty. If not, we will not understand beauty, love or mercy to their fullest meaning. God gave us the ability to choose. If people then choose hate, cruelty, dishonesty, why do people then say there can not be a God who could allow all of this with its consequences in this world? He allows man a free will. He also sent Christ to this world to show man what mercy and love should be and to turn away from these horrible ways. But it is still man’s choice. God gave man a free will and God respects this free will of man and will force no one to His will. It is man's choice. If people would obey what God is saying in His Word to keep sexual relationships only within marriage AIDS would not have existed – people are disobeying God and then say they can not understand how this terrible disease can cause so much devastation.

Do not look at people and judge God’s existence.

God has created man not only with the 'inner voice' that there must be a Creator but also with an urge to find Him. Augustine has said many centuries ago that man was created for God and man will not find peace unless he finds it in God. Only when we find God will we experience true inner peace.

I often wonder what people mean and think when they say ”Thank Goodness” or “Good Luck” or “My God!” Is it because they know in their hearts that there is a force bigger and outside of themselves, but really do not care to sit down and think about the ultimate decision in their lives because of the implications it will have?  “If you do not surrender to God, you will surrender to something else- your moods, your circumstances, your fears, your self-centred concerns, your lusts”. “Either we live our lives in terms of our believe in God and the conclusions we are entitled to draw from that, or our outlook is based upon a rejection of God and the corresponding denials”.  Selwyn Hughes

“An atheist is an atheist because he disobeyed revealed truth in the past. Until he is willing to confess that disobedience and start obeying God, he cannot have faith (trust in God)”.

It is also in our nature to turn away from God.

“There is no one who is righteous, not one who is wise or who worships God. All have turned away from God; they have all gone wrong; no one does what is right, not even one” Romans 3:10

However, God has created us and the world in such a way that we can hardly deny His existence.

“Ever since God created the world, His invisible qualities, both His eternal power and His divine nature, have been clearly seen; they are perceived in the things that God has made. So those people have no excuse at all! They know God, but they do not give Him the honour that belongs to Him, nor do they thank Him. Instead, their thoughts have become completely nonsense, and their empty minds filled with darkness”. Romans 1:19-21

To deny the existence of God or to believe that there is no God will make no difference to the fact that He exists. People often think that if God does not exist in their minds or in their opinion, then He does not exist at all. Well, if nobody told you that I was married and you have never met my wife, would it change the fact that I am married and have a wife if I tell you and you would not believe me? What you believe is in fact irrelevant to the truth of the facts. Whether one believes or not, does not influence the fact of eternity but only where one will spend eternity.

Nowhere in the Bible is there any attempt to prove the existence of God. It treats it as a fact from the very first verse of the Bible. But obviously we can only accept the Bible if we accept God.

It is important to realise that to believe in a Creator is never an non scientific exercise and that scientific discoveries are consistent with Christian experience. Many well known scientists in history were practising Christians. To name but  a few: Sir Isaac Newton, Robert Boyle, Edward Jenner,  Michael Faraday.

If there is a Creator of the world and the universe one would think that He would at least make some contact with His creation and make Himself known. Give us some idea of why and what. If the Bible is from this Creator, from  the God that has created everything so wonderfully complex, one should not be surprised that the Bible and faith is in fact complex. There is nothing simple and straightforward about faith, it is complex. I think it would be arrogant to think anyone understands it completely,  just as we will never understand science,  the human brain, the universe or any aspect of the creation completely. Just as we have to research science, we have to search and research the Bible and God. It is the same Creator. The basic message is simple to understand, as is junior school mathematics, and to start we can function on it. But if we go into the depths of the Bible, there is so much and it gets so fulfilling to know more about God and understand humanity and creation better. The Bible is God’s revealed Truths, the more we come to know Him, the more we will understand these Truths.

What is important, however, is that each human being is to decide for himself whether there is a God or not and choose for or against Him.  Seek God, find Him and find out what His reason and purpose for you is on this earth and get into a relationship with Him. After all, when one dies, there will only be one thing that one can take with. The rest will all be left behind; possessions, education, wife, children. Everything, except my relationship with God.

“ Don’t be fools, then, but try to find out what the Lord wants you to do” Ephesians 5:17

“Come near to God, and He will come near to you” James 4:8. Note who has to act first. This is a basic principle in the teachings of the Bible and therefore God. God will force no one to come to Him but will accept everyone who seeks  and comes to Him

There are so many different arguments, schools of thought, religions and modern day ideas, particularly the new age movements, advocating religious tolerance. Anything is acceptable as long as it does not interfere with what I believe or my life. Post modern thinking. This is in direct contrast to the Bible.

“ The time will come when people will not listen to sound doctrine, but will follow their own desires and will collect for themselves more and more teachers who will tell them what they are itching to hear. They will turn away from listening to the truth and give their attention to legends.” II Timothy 4:3-4.

The Creator of this world is present in this world, His presence fills the world. We only realise this when we start looking for Him. He will reveal Himself to us.

'God did this so that men would seek Him and perhaps reach out for Him, though He is not far from each one of us. For in Him we live and move and have our being' Acts 17:27-28

“The Lord Almighty is holy! His glory fills the world” Isaiah 6:3

But even if our Gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing, whose minds the god (satan) of this age has blinded, who do not believe, lest the light of the Gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine on them.”  II Corinthians 4:3-4

II. There is a God

V God has revealed Himself in five basic ways to mankind as described by Roger Carswell  in his book Why Believe.

·        through His creation.

·        through the individual conscience.

·        through the scripture - the Bible.

·        through Christ.

·        through Christian conversion.

How can we make contact with God?  If someone with no knowledge of radios or radio waves is told that the air around us and in fact most of the earth’s surface is covered by radio waves he will probably not understand what you are talking about. If you would show him a radio, switched it on and explain to him how it functions a whole new world will open up to him, a world that surrounded him but that he was totally unaware of.  The same with God. He is around us and everywhere but if we are not tuned into Him, we will not see Him, nor will we experience Him.  The radio that we need to tune into God, is the Bible – the Living Word of God.

Most books are the product of an individual author. The Bible in contrast, was written by more than forty authors over sixteen centuries. They came from four different cultures and wrote in three languages (Hebrew, Aramaic and Greek) on three continents. Some of the authors were rabbis, kings, prophets, a tax collector, a doctor, philosophers, fishermen, and many more.  One would expect a clash of culture, thought, philosophy and belief; however, there is absolute harmony with a clear message of how God interact with people, and what His will is for the human race and each individual. A golden line running from the first book, Genesis to the last book, Revelation.

No other book in the history of the world has sold so many copies. And for no other Book ever written has so many people died. Why? Because it is about the Truth of life itself. A Truth that touches and changes people's hearts.

The Bible is not about rules and regulations but about the truths of life and can only be interpreted and understood by God’s revelation to the individual who seeks Him.

“God’s Word is alive with meaning and when you read it something will happen to you." Selwyn Hughes

“The word of God is alive and active, sharper than any double-edged sword. It cuts all the way through, to where soul and spirit meet” Hebrew 4:12

U.S. president Woodrow Wilson said: “When you have read the Bible, you will know it is the word of God, because you will have found it the key to your own heart, your own happiness and your own duty”.

“In the Beginning the Word already existed; the Word was with God, and the Word was God”  John 1:1 The Bible is the personification of God.

“All the Scripture is inspired by God and is useful for teaching the truth, rebuking error, correcting faults, and giving instructions for right living, so that the person that serves God may be fully qualified and equipped to do every kind and good deed”. II Timothy 3:16-17

The Bible can be read by anyone but it can only be understood by those whose hearts are in tune with God, those who seek God from their hearts

The basis of understanding the spiritual is not the intellect but obedience. Obedience to God; to seek God, to believe and to obey God.

“But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.”  I Corinthians 1:18-21

Faith is not based on human wisdom. The existence of God can never be proven scientifically – He is the Unseen God as no one can see Him and live. As He is too holy . Exodus 33:22. To try and proof the existence of God is in direct contrast to the teaching of the Bible. God is about trusting and believing Him, who He says He is, trusting His integrity.

The principle theme of the Bible is faith (faith= complete trust, therefore to believe God through your knowing of Him, a relationship with Him). And not scientific proof: God the Creator is infinitely above science that He created, but spiritual experience will manifest in the physical when you believe and trust Him. If we could prove the existence of God scientifically, faith and trust would not be necessary and the message of the Bible and God, His revealed will, would be nullified.  To see a clay pot tells me that there must be a potter but tells me very little about the potter. Strangely people look at the universe and say 'There is no Potter' To know the Potter one has to look for Him and get to know Him. If we have an honest desire to find God and we search for Him, He will change our inner being and we will experience God. Faith means to trust and we can only trust God and therefore have faith in Him if we come to know Him. He will reveal Himself if we seek Him.

It is about trusting the Creator of the Universe:

“and my teaching and message were not delivered with skilful words of human wisdom, but with convincing proof of the power of God’s Spirit. Your faith, then, does not rest on human wisdom but on God’s power.” I Corinthians 2:4-5.

“I will destroy the wisdom of the wise and set aside the understanding of the scholars”  I Corinthians 1:19

“The way to become wise is to honour the Lord” Psalm 111:10

God wants us to act first. Certainly not by trying to be good (good deeds get us nowhere) , but to recognise Him as Creator of the world and ourselves.

“No one can please God without faith, for whoever comes to God must have faith that God exists and He rewards those who seek Him” Hebrew 11:6. This is our ultimate decision.

How do we know then that God is in fact the living God? Through His Spirit, given as a guarantee. We receive God's Spirit when we accept God’s existence and ask Him to accept us. II Corinthians 1:22 and 5:5. If we are filled with His Spirit, we will know God, experience Him, communicate with Him and we will want to obey Him. We will know and experience it in our hearts.

“who has given us the Holy Spirit in our hearts as the guarantee of all that He has in store for us.” II Corinthians 1:22

“God is the one who has prepared us for the change, and he gave us His Spirit as the guarantee of all that he has in store for us” II Corinthians 5;5

”And because of the Spirit that God has given us, we know that God lives in union with us” I John 3:24

“The Spirit is the guarantee that we shall receive what God has promised His people, and this assures us that God will give complete freedom to those who are His” Ephesians 1:14

“so that through faith we might receive the Spirit promised by God” Galatians 3:14

III. What if I do not have the Courage of my Conviction to make the Decision.

It is not so much that people cannot believe but that they will not.

Could the reason be that if I do make a decision the implications would be just too much and I do not really want to face them?

If you choose God, He will claim your life. Is that what people are afraid of?

The problem is that if I do not choose God, I, in fact, choose against Him. Either we commit ourselves to God or not!

If I accept that there must be a God, is it then possible to carry on with my life as before? Why did this God create me, what does He want from me, what will happen to me when I die? I cannot afford not to look for answers.

We all have a spirit and a spiritual life. Our spiritual lives can be lived at different levels:

Roger Carswell wrote in his book Why Believe about four levels of spiritual existence.

·        Type one is the kind of person who is guided by nothing but his own desires. He follows his “instinct” to fulfil his desires.  He is guided by his impulses, passion and lust. He will do anything to satisfy and gratify his physical desires or his perverted mind. Such a person was made to know God, but sin has not only devastated the spiritual dimension he was created to enjoy, but ruined every other part of him. Spiritual death brings with it “soulish” death and ultimately leads to physical death.

·        On a higher spiritual level is the vast majority of the population. These are the crowd followers. They are enslaved by the media and television. Their views and politics are determined by what is expressed by their peers, in their newspaper and on television and radio.  They are basically pawns manipulated by the media. They may be pleasant people who seek to be kind and helpful, but they are not what they are originally created to be.

·        The third group is people who are governed by reason. Their constant appeal is to common sense. They have a conscience and earnestly seek to follow it. Their knowledge, insight and courage may be admirable, but they still fall short of the glory for which man was created.

These three levels describe ‘natural’ people instead of ‘spiritual’. Some may even be religious, but they do not enjoy a personal relationship with their Creator. They do not know God.

“they will hold to the outward form of our religion, but reject its real power” II Timothy 3:5.

“These are the ones who hear the message, but the worries of this life, the love for riches, and all other kinds of desires crowd in and choke the Message, and they don’t bear the fruit” Mark 4 :18-19

“Do you believe that there is only one God? Good! The demons also believe – and they tremble with fear”. James 2:19

These are also the churchgoers with no personal relationship with God who have not received the Spirit in their hearts.

·        On the fourth level the individual is guided by the Spirit of the living God. Such people have each come to a moment in their lives when they have asked Christ to cleanse them from past sin, and His Holy Spirit actually came as a welcome holy guest to dwell in their lives, to take control of them and to bring them into a intimate relationship with God. He, through their mind and reason guides them. They in turn daily seek to bring their life, feelings, actions and will under the control of God.

If we admit to the existence of God and commit to Him, we cannot but enter and be on this ‘fourth level’. If we decide not to choose God by either choosing against Him, or not taking any active decision, we can only be on spiritual level one, two or three as God claims total commitment.

“But the gate to life is narrow and the way that leads to it is hard and there are few people who find it” Matthew 7:14

“Those who do not take up their cross and follow in my footsteps are not fit to be my disciples” Matthew 10:38

To know God personally and to receive His Spirit in our hearts gives inner peace impossible to describe. A dictionary can not describe the true meaning of love, only he who experiences love will know the true meaning of love, the same with the peace that God gives.

If we do not choose for God what are the implications?

“Or perhaps you despise His great kindness, tolerance, and patience. Surely you know that God is kind, because He is trying to lead you to repent. But you have a hard and stubborn heart, and so you are making your own punishment even greater on the Day that God’s anger and righteous judgement will be revealed” Romans 2:4-5

“Everyone of us, then, will have to give an account of ourselves to God” Romans 14:12

“Let us be grateful and worship God in a way that will please Him, with reverence and awe; because our God is indeed a destroying fire” Hebrew12:29

“For sin pays its wage – death: but God’s free gift is eternal life in union with Christ Jesus our Lord” Romans 6:23

The ultimate, fundamental and most important decision in life: My Decision – as simple as: for or against God.

“For God loved the world so much that He gave His only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him may not die but have eternal life”  John 3:16

Who was and is Christ?

It is a historic fact that there was a man called Jesus who lived approximately 2000 years ago in the middle east as described in 1. the New Testament of the Bible and 2. many other historical documents.

There are really only three possibilities who Jesus was: Liar, Lunatic or LORD

  •            Was He  a liar who lied to the whole world and had millions of people following Him over the past 2000 years and presently billions? (2.2 Billions Christians in world today)
  •         Or He was a lunatic who was so confused in Himself that He could believe that He was truly the son of God.
  •           Or was He truly the Son of God (for whom millions have died for their faith and still dying today because of their trust in God as they knew and know Him in their hearts) They believed His Word, that Jesus was sent to earth because of God's holiness. That there is no one holy, totally sin free, who can come into God’s presence. Christ came to this earth because of the righteousness of God who will punish all sin and therefore had to punish His Son to make us holy, totally sin free, and allow us into God's presence because of His love for us.

Christian faith is totally based on love and forgiveness from God through His son Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ stated very clearly that He is the Son of God and the only way to God is through Him. We all do wrong every day and if we know God and grow closer to His holiness, we become more and more aware of the many wrong things in our lives and get more and more aware of our unholiness and that we cannot get to God unless we  are made holy daily through Jesus Christ.

Is there a God? And do I believe what God is saying?

Personal testimony:

Do not look at me or any other Christian and judge God.

I know in my heart there is a God. How can I be sure of Something or Somebody that nobody has ever seen? I know because I experience God on a daily basis. I communicate with Him. I know God. I love God intensely and experience His love for me deep in my heart.  I have been convinced in my heart through the Holy Spirit that God is a holy God of love and that I am a sinner, sinning every day through deeds and thoughts.  I can only be in God’s presence if I am holy which is totally impossible except through Christ, God’s Son, who died for my sins and declared me holy despite my sin.

“Even before the world was made, God had already chosen us to be His through our union with Christ, so that we would be holy and without fault before Him”. Ephesians 1:4

I therefore rely totally on God’s grace through His Son Jesus Christ (the fundamental difference between Christianity and world religions). This has brought me into the presence of God. He now convinces me in my heart of His existence, love and Holiness. I live with Him daily and this gives meaning to my life: to love and to live for God and my fellow man. I can now experience Him and communicate with Him through prayer, answers from the Bible, hearing God’s voice in my mind and being convinced in my heart about particular daily issues, changing circumstances through prayer and through other people.  Although God expects me to live a life dedicated to Him and my fellow man, I am still a sinner not always doing what I should do but it is this path of holiness that I follow, relying fully on Christ’s forgiveness to declare me holy and keep me in the presence of God.

How did this all happen in my life? Firstly by my searching for God and realising my own position of having no final answers and sin. Secondly, accepting Him and then by being convinced by God through His Holy Spirit, of His omnipresence, forgiveness and love, then having peace in my mind and heart that followed.

God speaks through the Bible, His living Word, through circumstances and through people to all who wants to listen. The choice is ours. Either God’s immeasurable love or His wrath. Hebrews 10:31 “It’s a terrifying thing to fall into the Hands of the living God!” I pray that you will experience God’s love which is bigger than what our minds can ever grasp and a reality for everyone that seeks and accepts Him.

I pray for everyone of you reading these words in the words of Paul to the Ephesians 1:17-19:” I remember you in my prayers and ask the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, to give you the Spirit, who will make you wise and reveal God to you, so that you will know Him. I ask that your minds may be opened to see His light, so that you will know what is the hope to which He has called you, how rich are the wonderful blessing He promises His people, and how very great is His power at work in us who believe”.
